Kakao said on Wednesday it will carry out online and offline KakaoFriends collaborations with Riot Games to mark the 2026 League of Legends World Championship (Worlds 2026).
Kakao will sequentially roll out content that reinterprets key League of Legends scenes and music content using KakaoFriends characters.
On Oct. 13, it first released three pieces of content that reconstruct the narrative and key scenes involving T1 and Faker from the Worlds 2026 music video using Choonsik.
At 10 a.m. on Oct. 23, it will release content created in collaboration with League of Legends virtual artist group K/DA through KakaoFriends' official social media channels. It also plans to sequentially release follow-up content that can be compared with the original after the main episode.
Offline, it will take part in an official pop-up event that Riot Games will run at Lotte World Mall in Jamsil, Seoul, from Oct. 23 to Nov. 1.
Kakao will set up a space where visitors can experience the collaboration theme at the pop-up venue. It will also hold a separate event from Oct. 23 to 25, the first weekend after opening.
It will also continue global marketing. During the Worlds period in November, it plans to promote the collaboration content on a large electronic billboard in New York's Times Square and run campaigns on major outdoor media in South Korea and Kakao brand channels.
A Kakao official said it plans to continue various partnerships with Riot Games starting with this content collaboration. The official said it will introduce KakaoFriends to various fans through offline touchpoints and global marketing.
