LG Uplus said on Oct. 16 it showcased artificial intelligence-based next-generation Wi-Fi technology at Europe’s largest telecommunications and network exhibition.
LG Uplus took part in Network X 2026 in Vienna, Austria, from Oct. 12 to 15. It introduced its Wi-Fi 7 commercialisation results and AI-based network quality management technology. Network X is an event where global telecom operators, equipment makers and ICT companies take part to share next-generation communications technologies, including wired and wireless networks and broadband.
LG Uplus introduced the commercialisation results of its Wi-Fi 7 router supporting the 6 GHz band, which it unveiled last year as the first among South Korean telecom carriers. The router uses the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands to provide a fast and stable wireless environment. It also unveiled AI-based Wi-Fi quality management technology. AI analyses network quality data collected by the router, identifies the cause of quality degradation and notifies users of problem situations before customers experience inconvenience.
It also presented proof-of-concept results for Wi-Fi 8-based edge AI technology. Edge AI is a technology in which a router equipped with a neural processing unit analyses and optimises network conditions directly without going through a cloud server. LG Uplus plans to advance the technology so AI can identify the cause of faults on its own and automatically recover.
Jin-hyeok Lee (이진혁), head of the Consumer Service Development Lab at LG Uplus and an executive director, said the exhibition introduced AI-based network operation technology and next-generation Wi-Fi technology to the global industry. He said the company will continue developing related technologies to provide stable network services that customers can feel.
