U.S. Big Tech companies including Nvidia and Apple have been confirmed to have made large donations to President Donald Trump's White House ballroom construction project. As donation amounts by company are disclosed, concerns are growing that federal policy decisions could become entangled with corporate interests.

On Oct. 15 (local time), CNBC reported Nvidia and Apple pledged $25 million each for the White House ballroom construction. Cisco also confirmed it donated $5 million.

Internal documents obtained by The Washington Post show 67 donations exceeding $10,000 as of late September. Total pledged donations reached about $333 million, and Nvidia and Apple were listed among the top donors.

Other technology companies also participated in large numbers. Microsoft and Palantir each pledged $10 million, while Amazon, Meta and ServiceNow each pledged $5 million, the documents showed. Donations are delivered to a White House-related account through the nonprofit Trust for the National Mall. Donors were provided with pledge documents in the name of the Donald J. Trump Ballroom.

Nvidia stressed that the donation is unrelated to its business interests. The company said it is important to support the country as a U.S. company and that it donated to a bipartisan trust for all Americans.

But politicians and civic groups are raising issues with the fact that many donor companies have direct interests in federal regulation and contracts. Nvidia, Microsoft and Palantir play important roles in AI infrastructure and government projects. That has raised concerns that large donations could influence policy decisions or federal contracts.

Still, a direct link between donations and specific policy benefits has not been confirmed.

The White House says private donations will be used to improve facilities for the public. Critics, however, say disclosure of donors and conflict-of-interest safeguards should be strengthened.
