Lido, a liquid staking protocol, added to its staking interface a feature that lets users stake Ethereum (ETH) directly on four layer2 networks: Arbitrum, Base, Linea and Optimism.

The Defiant reported on Oct. 15 that users receive wstETH on the network they use, without having to move assets to Ethereum mainnet and then bring them back. The feature is provided based on Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP).

Users’ deposited ETH is converted into wstETH through a dedicated liquidity pool set up on the same layer2. The exchange rate follows the Lido protocol standard that reflects Chainlink price information rather than exchange prices.

Actual staking still takes place on Ethereum mainnet. ETH that enters layer2 is automatically transferred to mainnet and staked through Lido.

wstETH is a wrapped version of Lido’s staking token stETH.

Lido previously introduced the feature in October 2024 for Arbitrum, Base and Optimism, and added Linea in October 2025. Until now, users had to go through an external service interface to use it.
