Apple’s new foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, costs $999 (about 1.35 million won) to replace the internal display and $1,499 (about 2.02 million won) for other damage repairs when the work is not covered by warranty.

On Oct. 14, local time, IT outlet NineToFiveMac reported that Apple released estimated service costs by category ahead of the start of pre-orders for the iPhone Duo.

The iPhone Duo is positioned as Apple’s most expensive iPhone lineup. Its starting price is $1,999 (about 2.7 million won), while the 2TB model is $3,199 (about 4.3 million won). Adding AppleCare+ costs an additional $19.99 (about 27,000 won) per month. As a high-priced product, buyers are effectively forced to weigh whether to subscribe to AppleCare+ at the time of purchase.

Apple’s estimated out-of-warranty repair costs vary widely by damaged part. Cover layer damage costs $49 (about 66,000 won), and back glass damage costs $199 (about 260,000 won). Battery service and repairs for back camera damage are each priced at $229 (about 300,000 won). External display damage costs $379 (about 510,000 won), while repairing both the external display and back glass costs $509 (about 680,000 won). By contrast, damage to the foldable internal display rises to $999 (about 1.35 million won), and Apple charges $1,499 for cases it classifies as “other damage.”

These costs are estimates, not final prices. Apple said it applies these fees to device repairs, but noted that “Apple Authorized Service Providers may set their own service fees and provide their own estimates.” That means the actual amount charged for the same damage can vary depending on where the device is taken in.

AppleCare+ sharply reduces the repair burden. Apple put the fee for loss or theft coverage at $149 (about 200,000 won) and said battery service is provided free. Front display damage falls to $29 (about 40,000 won), and internal display damage falls to $99 (about 130,000 won).

The key point is that the iPhone Duo is a product with a high price not only to buy, but also to repair after purchase. In particular, the costs for the internal display and other damage appear to directly affect decisions on whether to subscribe to AppleCare+. Pre-orders begin on the 17th, with release scheduled for next week. Early buyers are expected to compare device pricing, the monthly subscription-style warranty cost and out-of-warranty repair fees.
