[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Starknet is reviewing a shift to Layer 1, targeting the adoption of quantum security in 2027.
The Defiant reported on Oct. 8 that StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson (엘리 벤사손) said converting to an independent chain would allow Starknet to directly control security upgrades.
If Starknet remains an Ethereum-based Layer 2, major security changes must follow Ethereum’s schedule. If it becomes an independent chain, it could carry out security upgrades when needed without waiting for Ethereum.
The Defiant said the key in the review is not the network structure change itself, but control over upgrades. Starknet is placing importance on whether it can apply its security framework at the timing it wants in line with its 2027 quantum security goal.
The Defiant said what has been disclosed so far is that it is reviewing the possibility of a move to Layer 1 and that the 2027 quantum security goal is behind it. Whether it will actually make the shift and the specific method have not been decided.
