Reddit will end support for RSS as of Nov. 13 and will operate its public API only until March 2027. On Sept. 30, Reddit decided to reduce channels for accessing its data to respond to large-scale scraping and abuse of automation.

Reddit explained the move by saying RSS had become a common route for large-scale scraping and abuse of automation. RSS is a web feed that delivers website updates in a standard format and has been widely used to subscribe to new blog posts through news reader apps.

The move also dovetails with a broader push by Reddit to monetise user-generated content. In its second-quarter earnings release, Reddit said non-advertising revenue rose 24 percent from a year earlier to $43 million. The revenue includes AI licensing deals.

Reddit recommended that moderators and operations teams review their current settings before Nov. 13 and move their workflows to a Discord Relaydevit app.

The impact of ending the public API is also expected to be significant. When public API access ends in March 2027, social listening products, research tools, AI products and AI assistants that have used Reddit conversations programmatically are expected to be affected. Service providers will need to sign separate agreements with Reddit to use Reddit data commercially.
