[DigitalToday reporter Suk Dae-geon] Samsung Electronics displayed a video on a Times Square billboard in New York to mark Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang (젠슨 황) receiving the “2026 Van Fleet Award.” Samsung said on Sept. 29 it began airing the video from 6 p.m. local time on the 27th. The video covered Huang’s leadership and key achievements during the development of the artificial intelligence (AI) industry.

Huang was selected as this year’s recipient in recognition of leading innovation in AI and accelerated computing and contributing to expanding AI and semiconductor cooperation between South Korea and the United States. The Van Fleet Award was established by the nonprofit Korea Society. It is named after General James Van Fleet, who served as commander of the U.S. Eighth Army during the Korean War, and is awarded annually to individuals or institutions that contribute to friendship and cooperation between South Korea and the United States.

Samsung Electronics also has a connection to the Van Fleet Award. The late Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee (이건희) received the award in 2006, 20 years ago, for contributions to South Korea-U.S. economic cooperation and the development of bilateral relations.

The billboard video was made up of 4 keywords representing Huang. They were “Pioneer,” meaning a trailblazer; “Architect,” a designer; “Builder,” a constructor; and “Friend.” The video introduced his activities and achievements with dynamic visuals centered on those keywords, the company said.

A separate video was also screened. It used a virtual exhibition space as the backdrop and showed Huang’s key activities and vision in sequence to convey the significance of the award.

Samsung Electronics and Nvidia have long cooperated across several areas, including memory and system semiconductors. As the AI era unfolds, the scope of cooperation between the two companies is widening further. Samsung Electronics is combining Nvidia’s accelerated computing and digital twin technologies with its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities. The company said its goal is to build an “AI Factory” that applies AI across the entire process, from research and development to design and manufacturing.
