AI and cloud company MegazoneCloud said on Tuesday it held a hands-on service disruption response event, Datadog Game Day, with global cloud monitoring platform company Datadog.

The event, held on Monday at Red Button Culture Stage in Seoul's Gangnam district, drew 56 IT engineers from fields including finance, telecommunications, games and commerce, who participated in 17 teams.

The event was run as a team competition in which groups of 3 to 4 people competed for disruption response scores. In the core 90-minute live challenge, organisers provided a virtual application modelled on a real banking service as the setting. The challenge unfolded as teams identified the causes of incidents in a complex disruption scenario in which payment delays, a surge in errors and external attacks occurred one after another in real time amid millions of transactions, scored points, and then continued on to the next incident.

The winner was the 'Raichu' team, formed by engineers from cryptocurrency exchange Coinone. The Raichu team, made up of Jong-geun Kim (김종근) from Coinone's security technology team, Yong-ho Song (송용호) from the back-end team, Seon-woo Lee (이선우) from the back-end development team, and manager Ha-neul Choi (최하늘) from the infrastructure team, took the title by resolving the most incidents in the shortest time.

Young-hwan Kim (김영환), head of MegazoneCloud's Key ISV unit, said: "Disruptions come without notice, but response capabilities can be prepared in advance." He added, "I hope participants will be able to apply the response experience they built on site in a practical way to their own operating environments."
