[Digital Today reporter Jinju Hong] Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (젠슨 황) pointed to cybersecurity as the next major application area for artificial intelligence. He expects the related market to grow quickly as AI is used in earnest beyond coding to detect software vulnerabilities and defend against cyberattacks.

Business Insider reported on Sept. 10 local time that Huang said at a Goldman Sachs conference companies will actively use AI to find software vulnerabilities and block cyberattacks.

Huang said if coding was one of AI's first major use cases, the next market is likely to be security. He described cybersecurity as a natural extension of coding and forecast that bug detection and security will become major uses of AI.

In particular, Huang cited "always on" as what differentiates AI-based cybersecurity. Unlike typical coding assistant tools that operate only when users enter prompts, security systems must continuously monitor corporate systems and detect threats, he said.

Huang said companies will pay to keep AI-based security systems running 24 hours a day because they must operate continuously. He said that could open a market capable of generating recurring revenue, unlike one-off software sales or coding assistant services.

Nvidia is also stepping up efforts to target the cybersecurity market. Nvidia recently said it would work with CrowdStrike, Cisco and Palantir to build AI-based cybersecurity tools. The move is seen as an effort to expand its AI ecosystem into security rather than limiting its role to supplying chips and infrastructure for AI computing.

Within the AI industry, a view is also spreading that cybersecurity is a new business opportunity. OpenAI Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar (사라 프라이어) also mentioned cybersecurity as an important commercial opportunity at the same event.

This shows the AI market's competitive landscape is expanding from model performance competition into industrial areas where companies actually spend money. Cybersecurity is seen as a market that can automate vulnerability detection and attack defense using AI and requires always-on operation, enabling long-term contracts and ongoing billing.

Still, as security uses of AI expand, new risks could also grow. That is because AI can be used for defense while attackers could abuse it to find vulnerabilities or automate cyberattacks. Researchers at AI companies including Anthropic have warned that if high-performance AI spreads without control it could enable sophisticated cyberattacks.

Ultimately, cybersecurity is emerging as a field where AI can become core infrastructure that operates around the clock in corporate systems, beyond a simple productivity tool. What products and services AI companies including Nvidia will introduce in the security market, and how quickly AI will penetrate real-world corporate security operations, are expected to be key points to watch.
