Korea Post will enter an emergency operations system to ensure smooth handling of Chuseok holiday parcel mail.

Korea Post, an affiliate of the Ministry of Science and ICT, said on Saturday it designated Sept. 14 to 29 as a 16-day "2026 Chuseok holiday special mail handling period" and will operate a special handling system. It expects about 14.33 million parcel items to be accepted nationwide during the period. The daily average is about 1.43 million, similar to last year's Chuseok level.

It will run 24 nationwide mail centers and 3 logistics centers at maximum capacity to cope with rising volumes. Korea Post completed on-site inspections of postal machinery, electrical facilities and vehicles to prevent safety accidents stemming from weather conditions such as typhoons, heat waves and heavy rain. It also plans to strengthen employee training so staff can halt work and evacuate quickly if weather advisories are issued.

To ensure safe delivery of holiday parcels, it urged users to pay attention to packaging and addressing. Seafood and meat should be packed using ice packs. Items wrapped in nonwoven fabric, styrofoam or wrapping cloth should be repacked in paper boxes or similar packaging. It is recommended that users write the postal code and address accurately and include a reachable phone number.
