PIPC discusses ways to expand use of regional AI data
South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission visited Gwangju Techno Park and the Artificial Intelligence Industry Convergence Project Group on Wednesday and held a meeting with local companies, institutions and researchers in AI medical and healthcare fields in the Jeonnam-Gwangju region. Participants proposed simplifying procedures for combining and processing pseudonymised data, establishing a new support centre and expanding consulting for local organisations. Chairperson Song Kyung-hee said the commission would support innovation while securing public trust in privacy protection.

KakaoBank supplies 1.2 trillion won in mid to low credit loans using non-financial data
KakaoBank is expanding loans to mid and low credit borrowers using an alternative credit scoring model built solely on non-financial data. The bank said it additionally supplied 1.2 trillion won in such loans by reassessing applicants rejected under financial-data models. About 12 percent of mid to low credit loans handled since adopting the model in 2023 went to individuals and sole proprietors newly selected through alternative-data evaluation. Cumulative supply since July 2017 has exceeded 16 trillion won.

Koscom designated as one-stop support center for pseudonymised data
Koscom has been designated by South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission as the operator of a one-stop support center for pseudonymised data, it said on Tuesday. The company will carry out pseudonymisation through specialised data staff and verify results through an independent review system to reduce public institutions\' legal and operational burdens. It plans to link with related support schemes as new regulations are set to take effect in September.
