OpenAI blocks attempts to extract protected reasoning, cites links to Moonshot AI
OpenAI said it detected and blocked an organised effort to extract non-public reasoning information from its AI models at scale. The activity began on July 1 and surged on July 24-25, when 16,000 requests showing similar extraction patterns came from more than 4,000 users. OpenAI said related activity was confirmed across more than 15,000 users and was blocked by July 28. It described the method as adversarial distillation and said the core group was linked to people related to Chinese startup Moonshot AI.

Jensen Huang says using others\' AI models is competition, clashing with U.S. view of theft
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (젠슨 황) said the technique known as AI model distillation, which trains a new model on another model’s outputs, should be seen as competition. His remarks diverge from the U.S. government’s stance that distillation used to extract capabilities from U.S. AI models amounts to theft. U.S. agencies have warned of large-scale campaigns by Chinese-linked firms, while China’s commerce ministry has rejected the claims as groundless.

Moonshot AI aims for $2 billion in annualised revenue
China\'s Moonshot AI has set a target of $2 billion in annualised revenue by the end of the year, about double its reported revenue run rate as of August. TechCrunch said the goal reflects results from K3, an open-weight model released this summer. OpenRouter data show K3 generates up to 300 billion tokens a day. TechCrunch also reported controversy over Moonshot AI\'s development approach and claims by Anthropic.
