Kakao to step up TalkBiz, AI and blockchain push in 2026
Kakao, which reduced its number of affiliates to 94 from 147 by the end of last year, plans to expand its artificial intelligence and blockchain ecosystems this year based on improved profitability in its core business. The company is betting on a rebound in KakaoTalk’s TalkBiz ad revenue, an AI service called “Kanana” due in the first quarter, and global growth driven by a “super wallet” and a consortium-backed won stablecoin ecosystem.

Former Kakao Entertainment co-CEO Jinsoo Lee joins Kakao Future Initiative Center
Former Kakao Entertainment co-CEO Jinsoo Lee has joined Kakao\'s Future Initiative Center, the group’s strategic control tower, to oversee mid- to long-term strategy. Industry sources said Lee began work on Jan. 5 as head of future strategy. Kakao created a new unit within the center and appointed him to lead it. He will support founder Bumsoo Kim and help shape future business strategy for the AI era.

Kakao Group says 2026 will be year of amplification, with AI and global push at stake
Kakao Group said it has completed more than two years of strengthening fundamentals and will make 2026 the first year of “directional growth,” with artificial intelligence and global expansion as key themes. Chair Chung Shin-a said the group will shift from a period of “condensation” to growth. Kakao outlined two growth pillars: people-centered AI and a global fandom OS, with web3 serving as core infrastructure linking activities such as reservations, payments and fan rewards.
