AI factor hits hiring market as ChatGPT recommendations shape applications
As generative AI becomes a key counselling tool for job seekers, concerns are growing that companies with limited web exposure could be excluded from recruitment. Some firms found their names did not appear when large language models were asked to recommend companies in their industry, and one company reported internship applications at about half the usual level. The trend is fuelling interest in LLM optimisation to increase citations and recommendations by tools such as ChatGPT.

Saramin said on Wednesday it has introduced an \"AI document pass coaching\" service to help job seekers write more complete cover letters and resumes with AI consulting. The company said the service analyses job-seeking and recruitment data held by Saramin, including resumes, job postings, corporate job-change offer data and applicants\' patterns. It recommends suitable cover letter questions, drafts text and revises it based on the desired tone.

Many resumes submitted to companies are filtered out by automated screening systems before hiring staff review them, a U.S. survey showed. Companies use applicant tracking systems to sort resumes by keywords, document format and job-related terms, rather than assessing potential or organisational fit. Qualified candidates can be rejected if wording differs from expected phrases or if layouts cause reading errors. The survey found 68 percent of job seekers use AI to write resumes.
