U.S. cyclospora infections surge as Trump administration cuts research funding
The United States is experiencing its largest-ever cyclospora outbreak as the federal research base supporting work on the parasite is also being shaken. Two of three U.S. Department of Agriculture programmes have effectively halted after failing to secure funding for fiscal 2026. A third programme keeps its budget, but a planned move of work from a Maryland-area research centre to Iowa could prompt staff departures. The CDC has confirmed 17,180 cases, with 922 hospitalisations and 2 deaths.

U.S. House renews push for bill to count crypto assets in mortgage qualification
A bill that would encourage U.S. federal housing agencies to reflect cryptocurrency holdings in mortgage underwriting has drawn renewed attention. Representative Nancy Mace reaffirmed her intent to advance the American Homeowner Crypto Modernization Act, saying crypto ownership should not bar people from homeownership. The proposal would not accept unverified wallet balances and would require documentation such as proof of ownership, transaction records and exchange documents. The bill remains in early legislative stages in Congress.

Angle Protocol to phase out EURA and USDA stablecoins, focus on DeFi incentives platform
Angle Protocol will phase out its EURA and USDA stablecoins. Holders can redeem EURA for EURC and USDA for USDC at a 1:1 rate on Ethereum through the Angle app until March 1, 2027. Vault manager users can close positions and recover collateral. After the redemption period, remaining reserves will be distributed on Ethereum by airdrop to unredeemed holders on a proportional basis, with a 1-year claim window.
