Tour de France battles heatwave near 40 degrees at Barcelona start
The Tour de France opens on July 4 in Barcelona in extreme heat, with temperatures forecast to reach 33 degrees on the first day and approach 40 degrees in later stages. Organisers say rider and spectator safety is the top priority and pointed to the UCI heat protocol, which can allow schedule changes or suspension.
