Bitcoin blocks to next halving fall below 100,000; reward to be cut in half in April 2028

Bitcoin has fewer than 100,000 blocks remaining until its next halving, renewing market focus on long-term supply changes. The next halving is expected around April 2028 at block 1.05 million, when the block reward will fall to 1.5625 BTC from 3.125 BTC. Annual inflation is estimated at about 0.85 percent in the 2024-2028 cycle and is seen dropping to about 0.4 percent afterward.

Bitcoin DeFi protocol Echo hacked after admin key stolen

Bitcoin-focused DeFi protocol Echo was hacked on May 18, after an attacker stole a service administrator key used on the Monad chain. Onchain Lens said the attacker minted 1,000 eBTC tokens, pledged 45 eBTC on DeFi lending protocol Convergence and borrowed about 11.29 WBTC, then bridged it to Ethereum, swapped to ether and moved 385 ETH to Tornado Cash. Echo said it recovered the key and burned 955 eBTC.

Japan\'s LDP approves plan for AI and blockchain-based next-generation financial system

Japan\'s ruling Liberal Democratic Party has formally approved a policy proposal to build a next-generation financial system using AI and blockchain technology, The Block reported. The proposal, drafted by an LDP project team led by lawmaker Seiji Kihara, prioritises developing automated financial infrastructure to support 24-hour autonomous commerce via blockchain networks. It also includes support for tokenised deposits and yen-denominated stablecoins, and calls for stronger cooperation with other Asian countries.
