Retail SSD market is almost over, Silicon Motion executive says, as AI shifts supply
The retail solid-state drive market has effectively shrunk sharply in the first half of this year, an industry assessment showed. Silicon Motion Vice President Nelson Duan said the retail SSD market has almost disappeared, as end demand for the company’s SSD controllers shifts from retail products to OEM products for PC makers. He linked the change to NAND flash suppliers allocating more output to data-centre products amid the AI boom.
