Anthropic expands into physical AI, unveils hardware version of MCP called MHS
Anthropic has unveiled a new interface standard, the Model Hardware Standard, designed to help AI agents operate machines and communicate with equipment more easily. MHS is built to work on any device with a programmable interface, including scientific research tools and advanced manufacturing equipment. Anthropic said it is like a USB-C cable that standardises how information is exchanged between devices. The standard aims to reduce installation and integration time and is not tied to a specific AI model.

KAIST develops quadruped robot technology that changes walking strategy on its own
KAIST said a mechanical engineering team has developed core control technology that allows a quadruped robot to choose and switch in real time among walking, running and jumping. The team used simulation to generate 15.5 hours of training data in 8 minutes and applied reinforcement learning so the robot could select gaits on complex terrain. Tests on the KAIST Hound included indoor courses, campus areas and forest paths, with a peak speed of 6 metres per second on rough ground.

Japan joins U.S. AI project Genesis Mission to co-invest $1 billion over five years
Japan will join the U.S. government’s artificial intelligence research project Genesis Mission as its first overseas partner. The two countries plan to invest $1 billion over five years to jointly develop technology to accelerate scientific research. Senior officials from Japan’s education and industry ministries are to visit the United States in early June and officially announce cooperation measures with the Department of Energy, which oversees the programme.
