a16z partner says on-site support, not grants, is needed for rural schools and hospitals

Anne Neuberger, a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz and former U.S. national security official, warned that small U.S. towns face mounting security threats, citing ransomware incidents that halt 911 systems and expose student records. She said rural hospitals sometimes pay ransoms above $100,000 and lack budgets, staff and technical capacity. Neuberger promoted the nonprofit SAIF, incubated by a16z, which will provide free AI and security tools, training and incident response through on-site engineering support.
