Ku Hyuk-chae visits IBS to seek ways to strengthen basic science competitiveness
Ku Hyuk-chae (구혁채), first vice minister of science and ICT, visited the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) on Tuesday to inspect major research sites and core facilities and to hold talks with research group leaders. The visit was the 19th stop in the Project Empathy 118 initiative. Ku reviewed use of key equipment including a cryo-electron microscope and a supercomputer and discussed ways to expand research fields, recruit talent and improve flexibility in using research funds.

Ku Hyuk-chae inspects commercialisation site for drug detection equipment
Ku Hyuk-chae (구혁채), first vice minister of South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT, visited SSTLabs, a technology development partner of X-ray security screening equipment maker Sea Networks, on Wednesday and met industry and research representatives including Qbim Solution, Deepnoid and the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. The visit was part of Project Empathy 118 and aimed to review the commercialisation of science and technology-based drug detection and screening equipment to block inflows and spread of narcotics.

The session was the 15th stop of the government\'s \"Project Empathy 118\" initiative aimed at field-focused policy implementation. Experts shared examples of AI use in research support and administration and raised areas needing government support.
