Uniswap holds first vote to activate v4 pool protocol fees
Uniswap governance is voting on a proposal to activate protocol fees for certain v4 pools. It is also voting on a separate proposal to expand v2 and v3 fee collection on Robinhood Chain. Both proposals have moved to a final on-chain vote running from July 19 to July 26. Uniswap founder Hayden Adams said on X that, given current volumes including on Robinhood Chain, the impact on UNI burns would be significant.

JCB partners with Circle to test stablecoin payments in Japan
JCB is partnering with Circle to examine the feasibility of cross-border payments using USDC and its potential use at merchants in Japan. The companies will first explore using USDC for internal cross-border fund transfers through a proof of concept. They will also pursue stablecoin payments at local merchants by overseas visitors to Japan and review technology supporting interoperability across multiple blockchain networks. They did not disclose a commercialization timeline.

Polygon CEO announces more layoffs as it seeks to finalise Coinme acquisition
Polygon Labs has announced additional layoffs as it works to finalise its acquisition of cryptocurrency exchange Coinme. Cointelegraph reported the move is part of a shift from a blockchain foundation to a blockchain-based payments company. CEO Marc Boiron said on X that the cuts reflect a restructuring tied to the transition, not the capabilities of departing staff. Polygon disclosed plans in January to acquire Coinme and wallet infrastructure platform Sequence in a $250 million deal.
