U.S., China accelerate AI investment race as U.S. relies on Big Tech, China on state funds

Rising funding for the U.S. and Chinese artificial intelligence industries is intensifying investment competition between the two countries. Global AI startup investment reached $255.5 billion in the first quarter of 2026, while Chinese AI ventures separately raised more than 110 billion yuan. China is accelerating state-led funding for AI, semiconductors and advanced manufacturing, and has launched a 1 trillion yuan national guidance fund. Both countries have also tightened measures to protect domestic industries.

South Korea, Vietnam to step up science and technology cooperation, masterplan unveiled

South Korea will move to expand cooperation with Vietnam in advanced fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, secondary batteries and biotech. The Ministry of Science and ICT and the foreign ministry held a Korea-Vietnam science and technology innovation forum in Hanoi with Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology and shared a masterplan for mid- to long-term cooperation. The masterplan focuses on follow-up support for VKIST, joint research, talent development and infrastructure.

South Korea, Vietnam sign framework to boost science, technology and development cooperation

South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT said it is strengthening cooperation with Vietnam in science, technology and digital fields following President Lee Jae-myung’s state visit. It signed a digital cooperation MOU with Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology to share policies and pursue joint projects. The science and foreign ministries also agreed a masterplan framework on science, technology innovation and development cooperation, with follow-up support for the Vietnam-Korea Institute of Science and Technology.
