Tesla begins production of next-generation Megapack 3, targets 50 GWh-a-year ESS output
Tesla has begun full-scale production of its next-generation grid energy storage system, Megapack 3, at a newly built Megafactory in Brookshire, Texas. The plant is designed for 50 GWh of annual output and is expected to also produce the Megablock platform. Megapack 3 raises storage capacity to about 5 MWh per unit, improves energy density and updates thermal management. Tesla cited rising demand but said supply-chain risks remain.

Tesla has dropped its 2026 mass-production plans for the Cybercab, Tesla Semi and Megapack 3 and removed wording on Optimus mass production from its second-quarter shareholder letter. Second-quarter revenue rose to $28.2 billion, while net profit fell to $1.1 billion and free cash flow turned negative.
