Point2 Technology secures Nvidia investment as interconnect draws attention

Point2 Technology, a fabless company making AI data centre interconnects, said on April 23 it secured strategic investment from Nvidia, UMC and Maverick Silicon. The company said the funding signals that competition in the AI chip industry is shifting from computing performance to interconnect technology. Point2 develops high-speed interconnects for AI and machine-learning data centres, aiming to address bandwidth limits of copper cables and the cost, power use and complexity of optical interconnects.

Candu AI raises $225 million, aims to ease AI chip bottlenecks with copper instead of optics

Swiss semiconductor company Candu AI has raised $225 million in a Series A round, The Next Web reported. The round was led by Maverick Silicon, with SoftBank, Synopsys, Cadence Design Systems and Alchip Technologies as strategic investors. Candu AI was valued at $400 million in the round. The company says copper is still viable, claiming its approach can boost link speeds and sharply reduce power use and system costs.
