XRPL proposal to expand memo field capacity 1,200-fold draws criticism from ex-Ripple executive
A technical dispute has emerged in the XRP Ledger community over a proposal to expand the transaction memo field from 1KB to about 1.3MB, enabling users to store large data such as images, PDFs, music, videos and source code on-chain. Supporters say the protocol should allow the option if users are willing to pay extra storage costs. Former Ripple developer relations lead Matt Hamilton called it a \"really bad idea,\" citing ledger bloat, higher node costs and risks to decentralisation, and suggested using networks such as Filecoin instead.
