Setapp Mobile to close in EU on Feb. 16, raising sustainability questions for alternative app stores
Setapp Mobile, one of the alternative app stores that emerged under the EU Digital Markets Act, will end service on Feb. 16. The platform, introduced by Ukrainian developer MacPaw in September 2024, offered EU users various apps for $9.99 a month. TechCrunch reported it struggled with Apple’s complex fee structure, particularly the Core Technology Fee, which charges developers 0.5 euros per install above 1 million annual first installs over 12 months.
