Strategy CEO forecasts record bitcoin spread within a year, says banks will rush in

Bank adoption of bitcoin-related services is expected to rise by a record amount over the next 12 months, a forecast said. Strategy CEO Phong Le cited inflation, regulatory clarity, customer demand, technology modernisation, agent-based AI, fear of falling behind and survival pressure. He said banks are moving from discussing crypto’s value to adopting services. Strategy’s index put adoption among major institutions at 34 percent in 2026’s third quarter.

Japan FSA approves trade settlement stablecoin pilot with three megabanks

Japan\'s Financial Services Agency has approved a fourth pilot project to use stablecoins for cross-border trade settlements, expanding tests into trade finance. The project will be led by TradeWaltz and involves Mizuho Bank, MUFG Bank and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp, among others. The initial scope covers receivables purchases and settlement between exporters and banks. The pilot begins in September 2026, with a trust-based yen stablecoin expected for commercial use in the fiscal year ending March 2027.

21 global financial firms to issue stablecoin; former Ripple executive calls it a familiar scene

A former Ripple executive, Emi Yoshikawa (에미 요시카와), described plans by a 21-bank consortium led by Goldman Sachs and MUFG Bank to launch a dollar stablecoin as a familiar move by banks. She said on X after the announcement that it felt like deja vu. The project draws attention for favoring tighter in-house control over outside blockchain networks. MUFG is also pushing a yen stablecoin payment launch in Japan by March 2027.
