Apple to acquire video editing software firm MotionVFX to step up competition with Adobe

Apple will acquire video editing software company MotionVFX as part of efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of Final Cut Pro, TechCrunch reported on March 16. The purchase price was not disclosed. Warsaw-based MotionVFX has worked with Apple for more than 15 years, developing plugins and templates for Final Cut Pro, and offers subscription-based video tools starting at $29 a month. Apple also recently launched a creator subscription bundle.

Apple launches $12.99-a-month Creator Studio app bundle

Apple is launching a Creator Studio subscription service to support creative work, TechCrunch reported on Jan. 13. The bundle costs $12.99 a month or $129 a year and includes six major apps for video, music and graphic design, plus premium iWork content. It includes Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro and Pixelmator Pro for Mac and iPad, as well as Mac-only Motion, Compressor and MainStage. Students and educators pay $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year. New subscribers get a one-month free trial.
