KOSPI falls to 5,500 level; circuit breakers triggered in both markets for second straight day
South Korea\'s KOSPI slid to the 5,500 level after breaking below 6,000, triggering a Level 1 circuit breaker for the second straight day in both the KOSPI and Kosdaq markets. The Kosdaq circuit breaker was triggered at 12:19:12 p.m., and the KOSPI at 12:32:32 p.m., after each index fell more than 8 percent. Sell-sidecar measures were also activated earlier in both markets.

KOSPI plunges more than 8 percent; eighth circuit breaker this year
South Korea’s KOSPI slumped more than 8 percent on Monday, triggering a Level 1 circuit breaker on the main board, its eighth activation this year and the 14th on record. The Korea Exchange said the index fell 542.24 points to 6,213.51 from the previous close of 6,755.75, setting off the mechanism at 10:13 a.m. Trading and order-taking were halted for 20 minutes.

KOSPI triggers level 1 circuit breaker after sell sidecar, 13th time ever
South Korea\'s KOSPI fell more than 8 percent, triggering a level 1 circuit breaker on the Korea Exchange after a sell sidecar was activated earlier in the session. The measure halted trading in listed stocks on the main board, excluding bonds, for 20 minutes and suspended the acceptance of new orders except for cancellation orders. It was the seventh activation this year and the 13th since April 2000.
