Samsung Electronics, Nano Convergence Technology Institute share public nanofab consulting results
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT held a results briefing on Sept. 11 at POSTECH\'s Nano Convergence Technology Institute on a consulting project to improve public nanofab operations. The project follows a March 2025 memorandum of understanding between the ministry, Samsung Electronics and two other chipmakers. Samsung’s DS division provided six months of consulting to transfer private fab management know-how, and the institute improved safety, cleanliness, equipment reliability and process service response.

MSIT launches public nano fab centers to build core R&D hub
South Korea will foster the National NanoFab Center and the Korea Nano Technology Institute as core hubs for the country’s nano research and development infrastructure, and expand a joint-use system linking industry, academia and research institutes. The Ministry of Science and ICT said First Vice Minister Gu Hyeok-chae attended a plaque ceremony in Suwon and chaired a public-private meeting on the centers’ development. The ministry plans a nano fab integrated information system to improve use of dispersed infrastructure.

Korea Nano Technology Institute names Byun Dae-seok as new president
The Korea Nano Technology Institute said on Sunday it appointed Byun Dae-seok (변대석), a former professor at Samsung Electronics\' Samsung Institute of Technology, as its eighth president. His three-year term runs until June 8, 2029. Byun, born in 1968, studied electrical engineering at Seoul National University and spent 26 years at Samsung Electronics. The institute was designated in May as a public nano-fab center under the Nano Technology Development Promotion Act.
