Korea, Italy to step up cooperation on AI, quantum, robotics
South Korea will strengthen cooperation with Italy in advanced science and technology and ICT, including artificial intelligence, quantum and robotics. The Ministry of Science and ICT signed an MOU with Italy’s Ministry of Universities and Research in Rome on June 12 during President Lee Jae-myung’s state visit. The two sides plan joint research, researcher exchanges, policy sharing and joint use of research facilities. Cooperation in basic science and priorities for future collaboration were also discussed.

Ku Hyuk-chae visits IBS to seek ways to strengthen basic science competitiveness
Ku Hyuk-chae (구혁채), first vice minister of science and ICT, visited the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) on Tuesday to inspect major research sites and core facilities and to hold talks with research group leaders. The visit was the 19th stop in the Project Empathy 118 initiative. Ku reviewed use of key equipment including a cryo-electron microscope and a supercomputer and discussed ways to expand research fields, recruit talent and improve flexibility in using research funds.

IBS appoints Jang Seok-bok as new president in first internal selection
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT on Wednesday appointed Jang Seok-bok as the new president of the Institute for Basic Science (IBS). Jang leads the IBS Center for Molecular Catalysis and is a distinguished professor in KAIST\'s chemistry department. It is the first time an internal IBS research group leader has been selected to head the institute. His term runs for five years from Wednesday.
