Hong Kong researchers demonstrate conditional eavesdropping technique reconstructing headphone audio from 30 metres away
A Hong Kong research team has disclosed an eavesdropping technique that captures electromagnetic signals leaking from device circuits to reconstruct audio, without hacking Bluetooth communication. The method, dubbed InjectEave, was presented at USENIX Security 2026 after tests on 11 commercial devices. The team said it reconstructed headphone playback, wired phone call audio and some smart home device states, including voice through a wall, and reported a maximum 30-metre result under sustained use of a 10-watt transmitter.
