iPhone forensics tool may preserve deleted photos and messages, report says
Forensic tools used by investigative agencies may be able to keep iPhones in a state that is more favorable for data access even after an automatic reboot, according to a report. Engadget said Magnet Forensics introduced GrayKey Preserve and an evidence preservation mode in a training video. Apple’s iOS 18.1 added an auto-restart feature that returns devices to a more encrypted state. It remains unclear how widely the technique is used.
