Google chief scientist Jeff Dean quits after 27 years amid AI reorganisation to launch startup
Google is reshuffling its AI organisation as chief scientist Jeff Dean leaves after 27 years to launch a startup with Google Senior Fellow Sanjay Ghemawat. Google plans to invest in the new company, and CEO Sundar Pichai said the company would support Dean’s departure process. DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis will become DeepMind chairman and also take on the role of Alphabet chief scientist, while DeepMind CTO Koray Kavukcuoglu is promoted to head of AI.
