Korean telecoms launch Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses
SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus on Tuesday launched the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and began targeting the AI wearable market. Developed through a partnership between Meta and global eyewear company EssilorLuxottica, the glasses support AI functions via voice commands as well as photo and video capture, calls and music. The telecoms are selling the Wayfarer model for 690,000 won or 740,000 won, depending on lens and frame options, and are offering bundled benefits and offline sales.

\"Hey Meta\" triggers shooting, translation as Meta AI glasses Ray-Ban, Oakley arrive in Japan
Meta is rolling out its smart glasses lineup in Japan, launching the everyday Ray-Ban Meta second generation and the sports-focused Oakley Meta at the same time. Facebook Japan and EssilorLuxottica say sales start on May 21. The glasses support hands-free photo and video capture, Meta AI functions and open-ear audio, with translation features expanding from sign and menu translation at launch to live translation in 20 languages from June.

Snap sets up \'Specs\' subsidiary to lead AR glasses development
Snap has established a subsidiary called Specs that will exclusively handle development of augmented reality glasses, as it seeks to accelerate commercialisation of its next-generation device. CNBC reported on Jan. 28 that Snap aims to improve operating efficiency for its AR glasses through the unit and is keeping open the possibility of securing outside partners and attracting investment. Specs is hiring more than 100 people and plans to launch sixth-generation AR glasses in 2026.
