HSBC enters UK digital securities sandbox after Bank of England approval

HSBC has received Bank of England approval to operate its digital asset platform, HSBC Orion, in the UK Digital Securities Sandbox. According to Cointelegraph, the platform supports the issuance, post-trade servicing and settlement of digital securities. HSBC Orion will operate as a digital securities depository within the sandbox. The platform supports bonds issued directly in digital form, including the planned UK digital gilt instrument and corporate bonds.

Hanwha Investment & Securities invests 30 billion won in U.S. blockchain firm Digital Asset

Hanwha Investment & Securities has invested about 30 billion won in Digital Asset, a blockchain infrastructure company focused on global finance. The company said on July 16 it completed a strategic investment of about 30 billion won in Digital Asset Holdings. New York-based Digital Asset operates the Canton Network, an open blockchain for financial services adopted by major institutions including Goldman Sachs and the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation.

UK bets on digital gilts, seeks up to 33 billion pounds a year in economic gains through tokenisation

Britain could generate annual economic gains of up to 33 billion pounds by 2035 if it becomes a global leader in tokenised finance, a projection said. The UK government aims to issue its first digital gilt in 2027 and accelerate the build-out of market infrastructure linking tokenised bond issuance, trading and settlement. A policy report proposes blockchain trials for repo transactions and urges recognition of digital gilts as central bank collateral to support secondary-market activity.
