Warren questions Meta on stablecoin payment push, citing lack of transparency
U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (엘리자베스 워런) has sent Meta a formal letter seeking details on its plans to expand stablecoin payments, criticising what she called a lack of transparency. The letter followed reports that Meta restarted stablecoin payment features on Facebook and began a pilot to pay some creators in Colombia and the Philippines using USD Coin. Warren raised concerns over financial stability, privacy and competition, and cited past USDC depegging. Meta denied plans to issue its own stablecoin.

Meta opts for stablecoin instead of own coin, pays creators in USDC
Meta has begun settling payments in the stablecoin USDC for some Facebook creators in Colombia and the Philippines. The pilot uses the Solana and Polygon networks to reduce cross-border payment delays and fees. A Meta spokesperson said the company is reviewing stablecoins as part of broader payment options. Meta does not convert USDC to cash, leaving creators to handle exchange and related fees. Meta is working with Stripe to support tax reporting.
