Huawei unveils 7.2 Tbps NPO, targets lead in AI network optics standards
Huawei is pushing standardisation of near-packaged optics, or NPO, for AI networks. The company is positioning NPO as a replacement for detachable optical modules and as an alternative to co-packaged optics, or CPO, citing CPO’s cost and maintenance burden. Huawei unveiled a 7.2-terabit-per-second NPO module at the China International Optoelectronic Exposition in Shenzhen. It plans to use the module in next-generation SuperPOD AI systems.
