Bitcoin holders top 500 million as mainstream asset threshold questioned

Global bitcoin holders have been tallied at more than 500 million, with analyst Willy Woo (윌리 우) estimating ownership at 4.5 to 6 percent of the world’s population. Using Glassnode and Chainalysis indicators, he put total holders at 370 million to 500 million and said adoption follows an S-shaped curve similar to the early internet. Ownership is uneven by country, and views differ on whether broader ownership will drive sharp price gains.

Mystery 20 bitcoin burned after exchange round trip from 12-year dormant wallet

On-chain data shows about $1 million worth of bitcoin moved from a wallet dormant for about 12 years, passed through a major centralised exchange and returned to the original wallet before being burned. The wallet transferred 20.00010537 BTC in March and received 20.00006037 BTC back three weeks later, a difference of 4,500 satoshis, about $3 at the time. The transfer was part of 107 BTC burned in May, worth about $8.5 million.

Violence targeting crypto owners rising, spreading to physical threats - Chainalysis report

Blockchain data platform Chainalysis said violence targeting cryptocurrency owners is increasing and expanding beyond online crime to physical threats such as kidnapping and home invasions. Its report said more than $30 million was stolen worldwide in the first half of 2026 through so-called wrench attacks, exceeding about 42 billion won. If the trend continues, annual losses could surpass the 2025 record of $58 million.
