Broadcast media watchdog elects Kim Woo-seok as standing member despite union opposition

The Broadcast Media Telecommunications Review Commission held a plenary meeting in Seoul on March 23 and elected commissioner Kim Woo-seok as a standing member. His election had failed once at an earlier meeting amid objections over his role in leading heavy sanctions on government-critical coverage under a former chief. Parliament set to approve broadcast media telecom commission members at Feb. 12 plenary session

South Korea\'s National Assembly will vote on appointing members of the Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission at a plenary session on Feb. 12. Lawmaker Choi Min-hee said the lineups for the commission and the Broadcast Media Telecommunications Review Commission are largely complete, with presidential office vetting in its final stage for the review body. The seven-member commission currently operates with two members and lacks a quorum to make decisions.
