IBM CEO says firms rethink security spending in AI era; U.S. cybersecurity stocks jump
U.S.-listed cybersecurity stocks rose broadly after IBM CEO Arvind Krishna said companies are reassessing security budgets as AI spreads and cyberattack risks grow. He said customers are shifting IT spending toward AI infrastructure such as servers and memory while rapidly raising their guard against security threats. Okta, Netskope and CrowdStrike rose about 10 percent, with several others up 7 to 8 percent. Krishna also said uncertainty is delaying some large contracts.

IBM shares plunge as AI investment boom triggers record drop
IBM shares tumbled on July 14, posting their biggest one-day fall as the company warned that weak second-quarter results reflected a shift in corporate IT budgets toward AI infrastructure and cybersecurity. IBM said sales of its mainframes and related software were under pressure as customers increased spending on memory chips, servers and storage ahead of price rises. IBM reported second-quarter revenue of $17.2 billion, up 1 percent year on year, below expectations, while infrastructure revenue fell 7 percent.

Red Hat expands cooperation with IBM and Palo Alto Networks to help companies tackle software vulnerabilities
Red Hat said on Thursday it is expanding cooperation with Palo Alto Networks and IBM to help companies detect vulnerabilities early and quickly apply protections across open-source software, commercial applications, operational technology and healthcare technology. The effort links Palo Alto Networks’ virtual patching with IBM-Red Hat Project Lightwell to combine network-level protection with software security patches. It aims to implement a dual-defense approach that carries out vulnerability response and security patching at the same time.
