MSIT discusses global AI issues at G7 digital ministers meeting
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT shared its policy direction for the spread of artificial intelligence and a safe digital transition at a G7 digital technology ministers meeting in Paris. Vice Minister Ryu Je-myeong led the delegation. Participants discussed safe and responsible AI, wider AI use by small and medium-sized firms, digital-based carbon neutrality and protection of minors online. The ministry also plans to visit French AI company Mistral AI.

Mistral CEO says in-house chip development is something that must be done someday
French AI startup Mistral is considering designing its own chips, CNBC reported on May 28. CEO Arthur Mensch said an in-house chip could meaningfully reduce token distribution costs, adding that the time to build chips will come, though the company currently relies on Nvidia. Mistral also announced inference-focused data centres in France, with a total investment of 4 billion euros in France and Sweden, and introduced its enterprise agent platform Vibe.

Mistral CEO says Europe has 2 years to build AI infrastructure or face permanent dependence on U.S.
Europe has only two years to build its own AI infrastructure before becoming permanently dependent on U.S. big tech, Mistral CEO Arthur Mensch has warned, Business Insider reported. Speaking at a French National Assembly hearing on digital sovereignty and AI, he said the outcome would be decided within two years. Mensch said Europe risks losing control not only of AI models but also of energy and computing infrastructure, and warned it could become a “vassal” if it keeps importing U.S. digital services.
