Rivian spinout robotics startup Mind Robotics hires Doug Field

Mind Robotics, an industrial robotics startup spun out by Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe, has appointed Doug Field as president. Field, who led Tesla’s Model 3 program and later worked on Apple’s car project and Ford’s EV, digital and design organization, will oversee product, engineering and operations with Scaringe. The company has raised more than $1 billion in under a year and is developing foundation models and dedicated robot hardware for manufacturing work.

AI chatbot Character.AI seeks bankruptcy protection as Disney places bid

Character.AI, an AI chatbot platform once valued at $1 billion, has filed for bankruptcy protection and entered a court-supervised sale process. The company cited failed fundraising, monthly operating losses of up to $9 million and legal burdens tied to protecting minors. Walt Disney is the first bidder with a $20 million offer for certain intellectual property and legal claims. Character.AI plans to keep services and subscriptions running during the process.
