Baek Kyung-hoon marks one year in office, says time to deliver tangible results on AI

Deputy Prime Minister Baek Kyung-hoon said his first year in office focused on building a foundation for an AI transition and that it is now time to deliver and prove tangible results. He highlighted progress on a homegrown AI foundation model project and a broader consensus on the need to secure GPUs. The government is pursuing a two-track strategy for domestic and frontier models, preparing a nationwide AI service and advancing plans for data, 6G, R&D and power supply for AI data centres.

Woori Financial steps up push to become full-service financial group

Woori Financial Group has refined its second-half execution strategy to accelerate its move toward a full-service financial group. It plans to expand its customer base and boost cross-selling among affiliates, while restoring bank profitability, strengthening non-bank competitiveness and widening its AI transition. The group also discussed tighter profitability and soundness management, talent development and stronger AI-based security and consumer protection. It raised its Future Shared Growth Project target to 90 trillion won.

iM Financial runs outside director training for all affiliates focused on AI and stablecoins

iM Financial Group is running a training programme for outside directors across all group affiliates covering financial sector issues including AI, digital assets and risk management. The group said it is working with the Korea Finance Institute to provide a tailored programme through November. The curriculum includes AI transition strategies, the structure of stablecoins and their impact on financial markets, and key risk-management checks at financial firms.
