China aims for 5 nm without EUV by 2029, unveils 2D semiconductor pilot line
Chinese semiconductor startup Yuanjiyue unveiled what it called the world’s first 8-inch pilot production line for 2D semiconductors and set a goal of developing 5 nm-class chips without EUV lithography by 2029. The company said the line supports the full process from material preparation to tape-out and signals a move beyond lab research. Chairman Bao Wenzhong said it aims to build a process equivalent to 90 nm silicon this year and develop a fully domestic process by 2029.

KAIST develops automated screening technology for 2D semiconductors
KAIST said on Wednesday its researchers developed a technology that automatically screens 2D semiconductors using only optical microscope images and connects the process to transistor fabrication. The joint study used molybdenum disulfide and differences in RGB brightness by thickness to automate selection and electrode design. Verified with atomic force microscopy, the method distinguished 3 to 8 layers, screened suitable samples from more than 120,000 flakes, and produced and analyzed 1,615 transistors.

Chinese researchers develop 1,000 times faster process for wafer-scale 2D semiconductors
Chinese researchers have developed a process to grow wafer-scale two-dimensional semiconductors at about 1,000 times the previous speed, a report said. The team redesigned a chemical vapor deposition process and replaced a solid substrate with a liquid gold and tungsten bilayer to ease physical limits on growth speed. They produced a monolayer tungsten silicon nitride film and said the work suggests scalable manufacturing potential, though mass production, defects and cost remain obstacles.
