The Central Radio Management Office under the Ministry of Science and ICT will discuss changes in the radio environment driven by the spread of new technologies such as AI, 6G and low-orbit satellites, and ways to respond to new spectrum threats.

The office will hold the Global Spectrum Management Forum 2026 on Sept. 1 under the theme “Future spectrum management strategies to respond to a rapidly changing radio environment and new threats.”

Now in its sixth year, the forum is a venue for overseas spectrum management authorities, domestic spectrum-related agencies and experts from industry and academia to share each country’s spectrum management policies and technologies and promote international cooperation.

Wi Kyu-jin (위규진), chair of a study group at the International Telecommunication Union Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R), will deliver a keynote speech on “the role of spectrum monitoring in national spectrum management.” Wi will present the importance of spectrum monitoring in responding to a new radio environment and the future direction of spectrum management.

The forum will run in three sessions. Session 1, “Responding to changes in global spectrum policy and the regulatory environment,” will introduce South Korea’s spectrum monitoring system, key 2026 trends in ITU-R SG1, and spectrum monitoring systems in Mongolia and Uganda.

Session 2, “AI-based spectrum monitoring and the next-generation wireless ecosystem,” will present AI-based spectrum prediction technology and cases involving 6G, satellite communications and 5G specialized networks. Session 3, “Response strategies for new spectrum threats and complex disasters,” will share anti-drone systems, research trends in interference with global navigation satellite system (GNSS) radio signals, and passive radar technology.

Choi Jun-ho (최준호), head of the Central Radio Management Office, said the radio environment was changing rapidly due to the spread of new technologies such as AI, 6G and low-orbit satellites, and that the importance of international cooperation was growing. He said he hoped the forum would serve as a venue for cooperation to share countries’ policies and technologies and jointly respond to the future radio environment.
