[DigitalToday reporter Jin-ho Lee (이진호)] SK Telecom is running a YouTube Premium Lite promotion to mark its prepaid-only mobile service Air surpassing 200,000 members.
SKT said on Monday it will provide YouTube Premium Lite free for 1 year after activation to customers who newly sign up for the Air X plan via the official Air app and website for 6 months through Feb. 28 next year.
Air X is an unlimited data plan costing 58,000 won a month. New subscribers during the promotion period can receive bonus pack points along with free access to YouTube Premium Lite. The points can be used to pay mobile bills or to buy about 1,000 types of products in the Air app point shop.
Air X subscribers can also pay the full monthly fee with points through December. With the maximum benefits applied, subscribers can use an unlimited data plan that includes YouTube Premium Lite at an effective monthly cost in the 10,000 won range.
SKT is also expanding how Air points can be used. It revised its system so that points earned through advertising missions can be used beyond the existing monthly bill payment limit of 5,000 won.
From last month, it also further increased the point limit that can be used for bill payments through December to help reduce customers' communications costs. Air X users can pay 100 percent of the monthly fee with points, while users of the other 5 plans can pay up to 50 percent. Since the benefit took effect, points used for bill payments last month rose more than fivefold from the previous month.
SKT is also running an event through Sept. 30 that fully waives eSIM issuance fees for customers who newly sign up for Air plans.
Koo Hyun-chul (구현철), head of SKT's Sales & Marketing division, said, "Air is a service designed thoroughly around users from the planning stage." He added, "We will continue striving to become a telecommunications brand that adds convenience and enjoyment to customers' daily lives."
