SK Telecom moved to carry out emergency repairs to its telecom network and provide public support in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, after damage from heavy rain.
SKT said on Aug. 26 it took steps to restore telecom services in Geoje so that voice and data services maintain call quality at normal levels.
The move aims to ensure essential communications, including safety checks between flood victims and their families, are not disrupted. SKT carried out restoration work after the rain eased and after ensuring the safety of staff at the site. It also deployed additional mobile base stations and WiFi equipment in areas where network damage was significant.
SKT is also providing relief supplies to evacuees, focusing on shelters. It provided 60 relief box sets to two shelters, including Geoje Okpo Elementary School and the Okpo Comprehensive Social Welfare Center. Each relief box includes a seat cushion for one person, sanitary masks, travel toiletries, an air pillow, a charger and a charging cable.
At shelters, it installed charging booths that can charge up to 50 smartphones at the same time and deployed support staff. It also provided 1 IPTV unit so evacuees can watch TV. In addition, it delivered daily necessities including 400 packs of wet wipes, travel tissues, portable battery packs, shopping bags, chargers and charging cables.
SKT stressed: "We will support the return to normal life for residents in flood-hit areas by restoring telecom infrastructure and providing living support at the same time."
